How pricing works

How we price interconnect work

You get the number in writing, before any work starts. We do not give a price at the door for anything the utility's rules decide.

  • What decides the price

Interconnect work is priced by the site, not by the kilowatt.

    • How far the inverter and the battery sit from the main panel

    • Whether the main panel can take the new breakers or needs work

    • Whether the meter socket or the service has to change

    • How many circuits the backup panel carries

    • The permit and the utility paperwork the system needs

  • What the estimate includes, and what it doesn't

The quote lists labor, materials, the diagram, the permit application and the utility application as separate lines.

    • Permit and utility fees are passed through on their own line

    • Panels, inverter, battery and mounting are with your installer

    • Drywall repair and paint after a wall is opened are not in it

  • What happens at the visit

Someone from the crew who will do the work looks at the main panel, the meter and where the inverter and battery go, and takes photos.

    • Any visit fee is told to you when you book

    • It comes off the price of the work if you hire us

  • How and when you pay

A deposit when you accept the quote, a payment when the electrical is built, and the balance when the utility gives permission to operate.

    • Card, check or bank transfer

    • No financing is offered

  • If the job changes

If the utility or the inspector asks for a change, we write it up with its price before we do it.

    • Nothing is added without your yes in writing

  • Materials and who buys them

We buy the wire, conduit, breakers and enclosures. Your installer or you supply the panels, inverter and battery.

    • We wire to the equipment on the list, so the list goes in the quote

Reading the quote

What each line on the quote is for

A short quote beats a long one. Each line answers one question.

Ask us to explain any line. We would rather you understood a short quote than signed a long one.

  • Labor and materials, so you can see the wiring cost

  • The diagram, so you know the drawing is paid for once

  • The permit and the utility application, each with its fee

  • Any change, written and signed before it is built

Price questions

Do you give a price over the phone?

Not for a job the utility's rules decide. We can say what raises or lowers it, and we price it after we have seen the panel and the diagram.

Is the visit fee credited?

Yes, if you hire us for the work. The fee is told to you when you book.

Do the permit and utility fees go on top?

They go on their own line and are passed through. We do not add to them.

Send the diagram or a photo of your panel. We quote after we have seen it.
