Questions about solar, batteries and the utility

Do I need a permit for a battery?

Adding a battery to a house on Oahu generally takes an electrical permit from the city. We confirm what your project needs when we price it.

Will a battery back up my air conditioner?

It can, if the battery and the inverter are sized for it, but an air conditioner is one of the biggest loads in a house. We say what is realistic after the load check.

Is my main panel big enough?

A load check tells us. Many homes take a backup panel as the main panel stands, and some need a larger panel or service.

Are you licensed and insured, and how do I check?

Our license class and number are in the footer of every page. You can search them on the state's license search.

Do you take calls at night?

No. We keep office hours. If there is a fire, call 911. If there is a burning smell or sparks and it is safe to do so, turn off the breaker and call your installer or us in the morning.

Can I send photos?

Yes. Text a photo of the main panel with the door open and one of the inverter's label to (808) 555-0100.

Do you work for installers from off the island?

Yes, for sites on Oahu. Send the site and who the owner is.

What does the first call cover?

What you are adding, who your installer is, where the utility stands, and whether we are the right firm for the job.
